I’m looking for travel insurance That would cover a us citizen in the United States for a short period of time (resident is outside of US) most policy’s exclude this, the only one that I found is patriot and diplomat that are expensive & maximum policy is  only 100k , I’m looking for something better, passport card is also an option as it covers up to 2,500000 but it comes out to over 500$ For me (family of 7)

Any info?

Thanks

Define short period.

Patriot is sold by IMG, which are having major system issues for the last couple of days, their website and phone lines are down. They claim to be working around the clock trying to resolve. In the meantime they did set up a phone number for medical emergencies.

If I understood you correctly you are talking about a US Citizen residing overseas. If income eligible, I think in NY one could qualify for Medicaid for emergencies.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Thanks for your reply

I’m looking for 28 days of coverage
I’d prefer something that covers non emergencies as well so Medicaid is not enough, I’ve purchased in the past from USAA they charged only for the adults and all dependents were free, and zero deductible, it came out less then 100$ for my whole family, but they recently changed their T&C and no longer cover us citizens in the US no matter  where you reside.

I tried googling but so far I’ve yet to find something good.

Thanks again.

With imglobal.com systems down for so long, I would have shorted SG (parent company) stock, but I doubt that's a viable strategy, as it seems extremely thinly traded.

Got the following update today:

Quote
Why are the systems down?
On January 27th, we experienced a ransomware incident. We shut down our systems to contain the activity.  Two cybersecurity firms were engaged by the end of the day to conduct an investigation and further assist us in remediation and restoration efforts. Our IT team continues to work diligently with experienced forensic consultants in cleaning and restoring our systems. The restoration process has been underway for several days and we’re continuing to make a lot of good progress.

Which systems were impacted?
All IMG systems were impacted by the cyber incident, including websites, phone lines, and internal systems. Emergency assistance phone lines were immediately restored, and since then, all U.S. phone systems have been restored. We remain available 24/7 for all emergency assistance.

Has data been accessed or acquired?

While our forensic investigation continues, as of this time, the investigation has found no evidence of data access or acquisition.  The forensic investigation is thorough and will likely be ongoing for at least another few weeks.

What are you doing to fix the problem?
IMG is implementing a plan monitored by our external forensic advisors to replace impacted systems with clean devices restored from backups. We are exercising caution as we restore – organizations that rush to restore without first securing the network may become reinfected. We are taking steps to try to avoid that here while still restoring our systems as quickly as possible.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Is there a maximum time period that the travel insurance covers?
If one buys a 1-way ticket, will they have things like 'emergency dental' covered as long as they're still away-from-home where they landed with that flight?

What if it's a round trip visit with 2 separate 1-way tickets (both purchased with the same sapphire reserve)?

thanks

When you purchase coverage you put a start and end date. In general you are covered until the earlier of the end date or your return to your home country.

most companies require you to purchase before the departure date. Some allow to purchase on the departure date IIRC. There may be restrictions on coverage based on when you purchase insurance vs when you pay for your travel expenses (eg: coverage for pre-existing conditions)
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

You should probably check with the company you plan to purchase with, since
There may be restrictions on coverage based on when you purchase insurance vs when you pay for your travel expenses (eg: coverage for pre-existing conditions)
also - most "Cancel for Any Reason" or "Cancel Anytime" plans are only available for purchase within a certain # of days after you purchased your flight / your first travel expense.

Plus, if something comes up to cause you to cancel your trip (eg: medical or any other issue), you will probably need to prove that you purchased the insurance before the issue occurred.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

How much  does the “cancel for any reason” Insurance cost? I just booked a trip hoping that I’ll be able to find someone to watch my kids. I need to be able to back out of my trip if I can’t make arrangements for them. Anyone have experience with this?

Depends on a lot of factors such as trip cost, age, and more. Also bear in mind that many companies are excluding Corona from their cancel for any reason plans (and some have even stopped selling it temporarily).

You'll want to keep an eye out for the deadline to purchase CFAR too.

Depends on the company, and will be based on either your first trip payment or last (I think). For example, some are within 15 days after your first trip payment (flight/hotel/whatever)

Thinking of booking a trip next mid winter to Israel, is there any insurance to purchase that would cover me if there is a second wave of covid-19 and travel is still restricted etc.?

If I understood you correctly you are talking about a US Citizen residing overseas. If income eligible, I think in NY one could qualify for Medicaid for emergencies.

Can a dual citizen (isreali american) living in isreal who is visiting the states for a month or two apply for medicaid instead of buying travel insurance?

how much is income eligible?

what would be the best/cheapest option for health insurance in that situation?

if i booked with my CSR would all travelers be covered?
