Family weekend party
« on: January 31, 2013, 12:22:50 AM »
My family one year did an amazing shabbos in the sheraton in NJ (i forgot what place) arrived friday and left sunday. We were about 20 rooms (big family) and had one big meeting room/ ballroom whatever they called it. It was NOT booked with points because they were giving them gr8 prices so it worked out well. Heres the thing. They've been trying to do this shabbos again and since the storm its been really hard finding a place. The place which they worked amazing with last time got a new owner and isnt giving them the same prices- and its more than they wanna spend. They were trying for next shabbos -feb 8-10 and ive been calling places, and they've been working really hard and still cant find a place. Anyone have any insightful info on a nice hotel that allows for them to bring in catered food and has 20 rooms available and has a meeting room avail in the NY/ NJ area? I thought the crown plaza in monsey was an awesome idea cus the rooms are now 5k PC points a night- and they had 20 rooms- but all meeting rooms were takin that weekend. Here is the list i was givin in regard to what will be needed:

Key operated doors?
Joining rooms?
Pool?
Board room capacity?
Sinks in ball room?
Can we bring our own food and sign a food disclosure agreement?
Room rates? Our range is about $85 - $95 a night

If anyone can help that would be amazing- or if anyone has info on where to call that would be gr8 as well...

thanks

We did a similar thing last year at the Sheraton Raritan Center. We paid for all the rooms with points and paid $500 for the conference room (2 x $250). They were very accommodating and it is a pity they will not work with you anymore. You might want to try talking to them yourself. I first dealt with the Director of sales and Markentig, John Matkovich and then with the catering sales manager Anthony Fraulo.

I will make time to call them today- but he told me they were asking 1500$ for the meeting rooms- and they wont budge.

Most hotels give free meeting rooms with 15-20 rooms.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

theres only very few hotels that will work for a shabbos- there are many things that are needed and not all hotels will have those amenities. Therefore your negotiations are small factor cus all the other details have to work out as well. I havent tried but i sure know my uncle and theres no way he didnt try really hard- cus hes really gud at these things.. I will now try and make a few phone calls but its also pretty close in time cus finally it wud work out for everyone for next shabbos and things are booked up.

I've negotiated with several hotels and all were willing to give a free meeting room when I asked for it, contingent on booking a minimum number of rooms.

Try the Bushkill Inn (newly renovated)- partly owned by frum owners.  See if their meeting coordinator can be accomodating

My brother in law and sister in law spent a few nights there and enjoyed it.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.

It may be different in the tri-state area where they are used to big Jewish families doing this, and they know what they can get for it...

Have you tried the Hyatt Morristown? I know the shul gets a great rate there.
