Which Firefox addons do you use?
« on: July 01, 2008, 08:35:46 AM »
I am mainly an Opera user, but I see that many of you feel that Firefox's addons make it superior. Which do you use and what do they do? Maybe you will win me over!

IE tab (loads a tab as IE), web developers toolbar (a whole bunch of really neat tools for web development), firebug (javascript debugger), fireshot  (takes screenshots), noscript (only allow sites you trust to run scripts) and S3fox (manage your files on amazon s3) are ones that I use regularly.
I doubt these particular ones will interest you that much but if you visit the firefox add-ons site and I'm sure you'll find a whole bunch that you find interesting.

I'm curious to hear about add-ons for backing up my preferences and bookmarks and saved passwords, and an add-on to save browsing "sessions" (this is a big thing for me).

IE tab is nice, but it seems to slow down FF for me.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I found a backup program for you, it will only work with firefox 2 but there are some experimental ones that you can try.

Are there any that record steaming audio playing with flash that doesn't download to a temporary file. Especially one which records just from the browser/window without recording other system sounds. If you have something like that which works with Opera or IE it would be helpful as well.

I downloaded the Session one and it's pretty cool. Does basically what I need it to. Yitzter, you didn't mention which backup add-on so I'm not sure what you mean. I think there's one called FEBE but I don't know if it works for FF3.

I think with the Google Toolbar for FF, you can log into your google account through the toolbar and from there you can have all of your bookmarks saved. Not only that, but it'll save all your browsing history, no matter which computer it was on, as long as you're logged in. Good for people who have a computer at work and one at home.

Your right my bad, It was late at night and I thought I posted the link. If you search for backup, there are ones that are experimental, they may or may not work, try em. You have to log in though, I can try it and let you know if it works.

How exactly would a firefox add-on work for opera or IE?

All that does is make a website think you are using a different browser than you really are.

Mozilla has officially made history with a new Guinness world record for the largest number of software downloads in a 24-hour period.
The final record breaking 8,002,530 downloads for Firefox 3.0 took place in June with parties in over 25 countries.

Is there an add-on where I can set up an account that only allows one or two websites? (Noggin, Nick JR) No other online access?
