Dept of Sanitation Tickets
« on: February 05, 2013, 02:37:29 PM »
Just to maybe enlighten you folks (certainly those that live in Brooklyn. I don't know about other areas, but I would think it's the same). In the past, if you got a ticket for your garbage - like being out 10 seconds too early, or if it wasn't tied, etc, it was $25. You should be aware that it is now $100 to start and if you don't pay it it goes up to a whopping $300. If you do get a ticket and you feel you shouldn't have gotten one, there's an online site (mentioned on the ticket) where you can fight it. I used the online method so that I wouldn't have to go down. I just got a response from the judge who definitely read my whole issue (I happened to call 311 at the time and I had a number they gave me so that helped too), wrote an entire response and voided the ticket. The reason I'm saying all this is that there is actually a person reading it and answering it seriously.

Man, what don't they ticket for in NYC?
...um... giving tickets. That seems to be the only unticketed activity round here.
They should ticket those ticket givers to oblivion.

It may be that my sole purpose in life is to serve as a bad example

In fact, these sanitation tickets are becoming much more prevalent. Most people just pay because it seems like you have to travel to a hearing and waste your whole day. Now you can do it online. They are giving bogus tickets. My ticket was because they claimed I left out garbage before the night before pickup. In fact, it was still there from the last pickup, they just didn't take it. That's where getting a complaint number from 311 came in handy. If you have a legitimate issue, fight.

How to make Dan happy?

Post something negative of NYC, or anything out of CLE.

Just kidding.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

There are many better places to live than CLE.
NYC just isn't one of them. Why the masses stay is beyond my intelligence.
Maybe Stockholm syndrome?

I'm looking to leave. The reasons people don't:
1. Family
2. Fear of the unknown
3. People think you're weird
4. Restaurants at 2 am
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Meh. In Brooklyn, I never took the garbage out, either.

And then I got married...

Man, what don't they ticket for in NYC?

Um, let's see:
I want to park at a meter for a long time, so I refill the meter.
Nope, there's a ticket for that: "Feeding Meter" -- parking in a metered space for a consecutive period of time longer than allowed, whether or not an additional coin or coins are deposited or another method of payment is used.$65or $35

Or let's say I want to stop for a minute while staying in my car at night by a fire hydrant. That must be fine.

Nope, there's a ticket for that too:
Stopping, standing or parking closer than 15 feet of a fire hydrant. Between sunrise and sunset, a passenger vehicle may stand alongside a fire hydrant as long as a driver remains behind the wheel and is ready to move the vehicle if required to do so.$115

Or how about disposing my mattress by putting it on the curb.
Nope, "...failure to place a mattress or box spring out in a proper bag can result in a $100 fine."

In Brooklyn chances on it'll be gone before you can say mattress and someone will be asleep on it.
