He heard Olmert out calmly and acknowledged that Israel had a right to protect its national security.

Agreed, but don't forget the other parts of the article in which other administration officers wanted to threaten Israel with isolation or other stuff should they go ahead with the attack. The concern is that this approach could someday take over.
Lucky for us, Bush was a decent man (and I mean that as a compliment) and didn't listen to Condi.
