Apple iPhone 4
« on: June 14, 2010, 01:52:55 PM »
I have at&t now and service sucks, always having dropped calls, am thinking of getting the new iPhone 4 which has a integrated antenna into its frame, any thoughts of whether this will help or not?
i personally think not as at&t's network is overloaded and its the network thats the problem, even if you have the best phone ever it means nothing if the network sucks

I think it's AT&T's network.  They are known to be overloaded and behind the times.  The more advanced their devices get (iPad and iPhone 4) - the more congestion on their inadequate network.  And now they are going to allow tethering - forget it.  Might as well go back to EDGE.
I'm giving up on the iPhone and ATT
I'm going to buy the new iPhone 4, wait 30 days, sell it, pay the ETF and switch to Sprint and get the EVO 4g.  Hopefully I can make $200 from the iPhone after the ETF to cover the EVO.

It's $325 now.  They just raised it for the iPhone 4.  It used to be much lower. ($175 I think)

Make sure you read all the T&C's properly. Certain carriers charge a fee for keeping the phone besides for the cancellation fee.

That means that if you cancel after 4 months you pay $3500, something seems wrong. Maybe call back.

Hopefully with the introduction of their new data plans ($15/200MB or $25/2GB) the network will start working faster, no more people downloading and streaming all day.

About the new data plans, I thought that the at&t plans were already overpriced (data $30/month) but at least it was unlimited. For those who only check their emails or similar low data usage its great because they pay half the price of before. But for the heavy users its definitely a bad thing.

Well yes they want you to use the wifi, which is free and even faster.

Apple is genius when it comes to marketing, that's most of the reason its not avail, they love the hype. You really think apple couldn't make their server handle all the traffic, they didn't for a reason

I think if anything, its the availability of the actual phone rather then the server.

I don't believe apple didn't make enough phones, its all marketing, they're releasing it slowly, and being that everyone wants it and noone can get it so they keep trying its getting overloaded

Youre right, they do this shtick every time. When the iPad came out the pushed off the release date in Australia twice because "its so popular we can't make enough". Then obviously when it does come out everyone is running for it.
But hey, there is a reason their stock is trading at an all time high of $264.12

Yep i also agree, when it comes to marketing they have a way of making everyone chalish for their product.... Making it so hard to get the iphone just makes people want it more

Try from the Apple Store.  I can definitely still add a line or upgrade a phone from there.  ATT orders have been down since the 15th.

There's no way.  Iv'e looked through everything very carefully and done this many times in the past.  It's either the ETF after 30 days (which may be $350 not $325, I have to double check) or Pay/Return the phone before the 30 days.  No choice to do what you want. It depends on the 30 day limit.
Just a warning - If you do this, you will be ineligible for any additional subsidized phone pricing as you have already extended the contract 2 years.  You may even be ineligible for any other iPhones for a period of time (even at full purchase price and even if you "lost" your original phone.  They know this goes on and limit everyone to 1 phone per eligible line.
I'm just not sure (still trying to figure out) how long this "blacklist" lasts.
