just as a note here by renting a car  (Avis/hertz)and giving in ur mileage # instead of points like hertz gold u will also get mileage and that will extend ur mileage. just did it with united for a 2 day rental by hertz $ 220. got me 150 miles and extended my mileage plus for 18 months.

Um I just did a magazine subscription to keep some AA miles alive. There were 72K miles in the account prior to the 1900 mile magazine spend. The order confirmation page shows that I now have negative 36K. Hoping its a temporary glitch so I don't need to waste time calling in to fix it. Anyone else have this?

Hello, my Mother's UAL Mileage Plus account has 100K+ miles that will expire end of SEP.  I understand there has to be activity in or out of the account for the to be extended another 18 months.  There are no miles coming in so what's the best/easiest way to spend as few miles as possible to extend it?  Thank you everyone! Feel free to PM if needed.  I appreciate in advance for any help. :)

Buy something from the mileage plus shopping site. Think you can get magazines or newspapers for cheap.

Buy something through the MileagePlus shopping portal. I think you can do iTunes if I'm not mistaken.

You need to wait till it's ticketed.

Actually I just booked a United award, waited until it ticketed 15 minutes later, and then cancelled it.
After logging out and in again I had the miles back and the account expiration was indeed extended through 01/31/15.
Dan, I just did the reservations. When do I know it's ticketed so I can cancel them?
