The Hawks are only getting a conditional 2nd in 24/25 which is practically nothing. Lesser players with less salary retention fetch much more.

The Hawks had zero bargaining power. They didn't need to offer anything except take some salary cap.

The 2nd is this year - the conditional 1st is 24 or 25 instead.

The 4th is also going to Chicago.

There is a 3rd in 2025 to Arizona to be the banker for 1/4 of the salary which is actually a decent pull and better than the going rate this year.

I'm not, at a certain point they would just say no and keep Kane for nothing, it's not like he wasn't getting traded for a 7th. But they didn't get a player, a prospect, and at best they get what would likely be a late first round pick in 24/25, and only if the Rangers make it to the Conference finals in the insanely tough Eastern conference. The Rangers are 6th in the entire league but also 6th in the East.

So much speculation going on in Chicago. Edmonton and LAS said no to Kane. Toronto was up in the air. Kane would only give Hawks one name at a time. You name it and they have it covered.

Even the signing rights before free agency can potentially fetch a 3rd rounder, and having a proven winner and franchise legend stick around benefits the young players on the team.

Tanner Jeannot is 25 and only has RFA rights. They effectively have him under control for the next 3 years.

He's a bottom sixer at best and not a difference maker.  But there are other examples of much higher prices paid even from this year - Timo Meier fetched a 1st rounder and conditional 2nd rounder (same condition as Rangers/Hawks trade). Tarasenko fetched a 1st rounder as well.

Not from anything I’ve heard, and I’ve been following closely. They went after Tarasenko over Kane because his price tag was lower and easier to fit within the cap, also there were greater concerns that his previous injuries were still lingering.

Once Tarasenko was traded we had Kane publicly express his frustration but that seemingly wasn’t enough. Then Kane started showing that he’s still capable of playing at a high level scoring 10 points in 4 games, and pushed even harder for the Rangers. His price tag dropped and Chicago was amenable to a deal, it was an offer too good to refuse. It was basically a done deal since last week before the entire rangers team played a few terrible games.

I noticed the prices this morning, almost $600 for the worst seats. And it’s against a garbage, non-rival team. Ticket prices are completely out of whack. 

Instead got lower level seats to the game tonight for a fraction of the price and saw our bust Tarasenko score 3 points including the game winner
