I think it's great he didn't let that fact stop him from choosing to resign.

That is insane!!!

I don't mean this in an insulting way at all if it is let me know and I'll delete it, but in a situation like this does anyone suspect foul play? Like if a president were to resign in middle of his term? Or is that ridiculous to even think?

It definitely crossed my mind. Not even foul play but just that perhaps it wasn't his idea exactly. I don't know how the Pope and his people work but if its anything like certain Rebbes and their people it may have not been so black and white.

On the other hand maybe it was just what it seems. He feels incapable with his old age and health of continuing his duties.

He was part of the Hitler youth, and still today head of the Inquisition*.
He declares some filth as holy despite knowing that he was kind of a nazi.
good riddance.

huh? What am I missing? What he did as a kid wasn't his choice and since he was Pope he seemed to only be nice towards Jews...

At the risk of sounding disrespectful, below is a link to an article discussing a large group of sex abuse victims who have been pursuing a lawsuit against the pope for what they claim is well documented cover ups directly from Pope Benedict himself (mostly before the popeship but it seems some after as well). I personally don't have any skin in the game but thought this was an interesting possibility and might explain a lot of the questions surrounding his resignation.
