I did erase my post minutes after i posted it because I realized my mistake. It wasn't a Chief Rabbi who resigned rather he was prevented from running in the first place.
In any case, the point is that everyone has a yetzer Harah and no one is imune, even those on top (כל הגדול מחבירו יצרו גדול הימנו) and although in an ideal world you would expect people on the top to be the ones who are the most spiritually qualified, unfortunately in our עלמא דשיקרא that is not always the case.
