Bios was fine, there was newer revisions but that didn't help.
It worked until it stopped working.
Updating Chipset driver didn't help

NC asked twice-- in the device manager-- do you have identified USB controllers? This would be my 1st question as well.
Another one would be to check for DisableSelectiveSuspend value in registry

Sorry it did show the keyboard and mouse in device manager  but it may have had it memorized from before. Registry was fine.

You are saying that you used "Before you ask - I used a PS2 connections" - so the fact that mouse/keyboard is showing doesnt tell me that controller is not corrupted

However, I am taking it as re-installing USB drivers did not do the trick, right? And also, there is nothing with the power management that caused it.

What is the OS used? And another one-- did system restore helped?

Reinstalling USB Controller didn't help, Power managed wasn't set to turn off to preserve power etc. OS - Windows 7.

Didn't try a system restore because I knew what the problem was, however system restore wouldn't have done the trick.

DevicePath got corrupted? Yet you said nothing from the registry...
deleting the infcache.1 file?

Idk, at this point sound slike a software problem rather than anything else (if not related to powermanagement)

Reinstalling usb chipset would usually repair most of those issues

Here is the answer to this one.
Bad Power Supply.
A dying power supply is sometimes pretty difficult to diagnose. As long as it does the job of powering up the computer - the assumption is that the PSU (Power Supply Unit) is functioning properly. However,  a dying power supply can cause significant speed issues, random shutdown, bluescreens (in some cases) and loss of power to some components. I've seen this cause graphics issues, (and usb connection issues as in this case)

Ppl think the issue is with the rollers, this usually comes from a spec of dirt or something blocking the light on the corner of the glass. Take a can of compressed air and spray on all the corners of the glass (including the separate thin glass that's in front off the regular glass) and make saure nothing is blocking the glass or lens

Can't do too mich with cracked micro sd, because the entire micro sd is the chip, unlike sd cards that have enough space to sometimes remove the chip even if the board cracks..

Aite, I am at a crossroads. USB 3.0 External 750GB Toshiba Canvio drive. Would detect on Win XP laptop, would not detect on WIn 7 desktop, all types of bending the cable (figured connection problem) - results in the same -- identified as external storage but cant get details and connect-- says device malfunctioned.

Plugged right back to Win XP laptop -- same error. Decided to write off a loss, for giggleds plugged into laptop #2 - Win 8 -- detected worked like a charm. Any ideas?

I mean i would just toss it, but it does work on 1 out of 3 .....
