But that doesn't answer why he was arrested in first place.
He did have 3 lawyers and the Australian government was notified.

I suspect that his cover was about to be blown so he was taken away. He reportedly was involved in a front company selling (sabotaged parts?) to Iran.

If he was selling parts to Iran and his cover is blown then Iran would know to replace etc.  all the stuff he sold them. And who knows what other dots Iran could connect.
However  if he just disappears without a trace then they could always say the Mossad/CIA  is going after Iran's suppliers.

Either way, this is a terrible break for Israel. Makes them look not much better than their neighbors.

The Military censor is way overused there, especially when they just leak stories to foreign sources and then just quote them.
The censor is used, I think on average or 2-3 times a year according to an article I read a few months back. While not idea, it's not exactly a suppression of free speech. And if I recall correctly, the US has asked the NYT and W. Post a few times not to run stories on the military due to security concerns.
And as PlatGuy wrote, he was able to see a lawyer, and had an MK looking into his welfare as well, so he's wasn't simply disappeared .

The military censor is used much more than twice a year.

The best story is when a radio station wanted to report a missile fell on a shul in tzefas, and it was censured because the military said that would pinpoint the location...

+1 It used fairly often, I find it funny when Hamodia or Yeshiva World quote "foreign news sources" since they have an Israeli office.

Well obviously, my point is that even hamodia which is really American does not want to take any chances.

Your mixing up USA and Israel. Drago was talking about USA censor. Obviously in Israel they censor much more then 2-3 times a year.

I mean in Israel.
But it's a bit more than that.

Vaknin-Gil: We receive thousands per month. An item can be one headline in a newspaper or a complex article which might take several months to review. Out of the thousands of items, 80-85 percent are returned without being touched. Out of the remaining articles, between 10-15 percent are returned to the publisher with what we call "specific disqualifications." Often it is only one sentence that we ban. Only up to 1 percent of all the items submitted to the censor are totally disqualified.

See here.

Every country has the right to protect themselves and ensure  there is not threat or breach of national security.

The only thing we know for sure is, that we have NO clue !

These lawyers he apparently had could be "mossad" lawyers, he might not be dead and might have never seen the inside of a cell,
thats why no one knew about him.

Or maybe he did hang himself (assisted suicide), thse type of things well just have to wait for wikileaks to publish stuff...

I don't get the whole fiasco being made out of the Israeli censorship. The strange details make the story interesting, but Israel is still no different than the US, Britain, or any other country with an army or spies. They all have some form of censorship in place.

I am personally against censorship, but I would not call Israel out for doing practically the same thing as everyone else. Also, while I feel bad for Ben Zygier-Alon, anyone that becomes a spy knows what they're getting into. Most spies die from murder, whether from their enemy or the country they serve.

No I'm not. If a spy dies during his service, it's most likely that he was murdered/killed/assassinated, whatever term fits your liking.

...and if most spies died during their service, then The CIA and Mossad would be out of business pretty soon (or at least outsourcing to China :P )

I never claimed that most spies die during service. Just if they die...
