Not necessarily so, I once booked a ticked that did not have a legal connection time I ended up missing the flight and was later compensated because it was the airlines fault for allowing me to book it.

What route? What airline? Who sold the ticket?

Yup.

You would arrive and depart out of Terminal 1, so it's just a matter of switching gates.

does anyone have experience flying El Al to Iberia (en route to JFK) and transferring in Madrid? is 1.5 hours enough? it seems as if El Al is in terminal 4s and Iberia is in terminal 4. TIA

edit: getting conflicting information if the iberia flight goes to terminal 4 or 4s...

If it's on 1 ticket, the minimum connection time is 1h 15min.

I know the actual rules, but more asking about the ease and if I actually have to switch terminals because I cant seem to find concrete information on the web.

Look at a map of terminal 4 and 4S in MAD i have same issue in reverse. It seems like they are near each other and shouldnt talk too long to transfer between one and the other. I have 2 hours between flights but have to pick up my luggage according to AA and recheck to IB. They said that should be enough time to do that.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

Im pretty sure theres a tram between terminals. And im also pretty sure they should be transfering your luggage if on one ticket

That is correct. You must be on one PNR with OW in order to be guaranteed interlining/protection in the case of delays.
