Taking advantage of cc perks when flying
« on: February 16, 2013, 10:47:48 PM »
First time flying since i got hooked up to owning credit cards and i want to take full advantage of it :)

1.do I have to book the ticket with that card in order to take advantage of  the checked bags, lounge access, priority boarding etc etc ( am i missing any btw?)
2. Would I just show my cc at checkin/boarding or what?
2. As per dans credit card breakdown post he recommends purchasing airfare on the saphire prefered due to being able to earn "2,140 points or 3,210 points for airfare " obviously i want to earn the above 3210, how do i go about making sure that happens?

The cards I currently own:

Platinum Charge
Spg
Hilton Honors

Citi AA

Chase Saphhire prefered
Chase united explorer
Chase Marriot
Chase BA
Chase Hyatt
Chase Priorty club/ Continental

TIA

What to tell us where and what airline you're flying so we could help?

But you should definitely book the air fare with the SP as it earns 2X on air fare and restraints.

Amex gold gives 3 points. Is it best if you have it?

It still depends, Award ticket? Domestic? Int'l? Do you need to meet spending bonuses?

Officially you have to do 1, but you generally get away with 2.

Oh, and lounge access is unrelated.

yes

I figured...

Your average CC ain't gonna help with baggage on that route. Most CCs only give 1 checked bag anyway, which you already get for free with your ticket. (No, the CC does NOT give an additional bag - it gives the first bag. If your first bag is already free, the CC is useless.)

The only CC that would help is the United Club card, which gives you two free bags.
