alternative to united
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:18:59 PM »
Hi,

I found the one way flight that I want from Europe to New York on United Economy for 30K and about 90 in taxes. I am going to transfer points from MR or UR (have plenty) to United and book it. Before I do that, is there a different star alliance partner instead of United to transfer to that will cut the miles and/ or taxes?

Thanks

Nope, but book from Europe to SJU via NYC to save a few miles.

Thanks Dan. Welcome back. How does one book that last SJU leg on a one way award ticket on United?

And just get out at NYC without continuing on to SJU? Luggage?

In coach it's cheaper, in business it's more.
Don't ask me why.

LHR-EWR-SJU, what's the problem?

Okay.. But, aren't you getting into phantom city issues, with possible mileage account freezing? Or is that not an issue with points?

Problem is that the flight that I want is one way going Budapest to Frankfurt on June 9 and then connecting next morning Frankfurt to JFK. One way award ticket on united for 30K points. I would love to do the SJU ticket, but I don't see how for the same price.
I thought United doesnt let you get a free stopover on a one way?

Never heard of any hidden city issues with ua.
Either way that's more for rev.

Not a stopover, a connection to SJU.
PUTPAC.

SJU is USA, but either way, yes.

i recently was speaking to someone who added on yyz to drop the price.  i wasn't sure what the bag situation was in that case.
