Last time I thought about switching I had serious opposition and that was for a longer stay and in Maui which has less to "do" then Bali. Just stick with one place though.
Got it. Thanks.

When looking for an Airbnb place in Ubud do I want to be right in the center or town or farther out? How far out is too far?

Depends, if you plan on having your own mode of transport (Scooters are $5-$10 per day) then I would suggest getting something outside of town

I Stayed here for a few days and loved it: http://www.booking.com/hotel/id/villa-anandani.html

The last place you linked looks nice. We'll have a baby so a scooter is probably not going to work out, and we don't plan on having a car. They do say they'll offer transport to town. Did you stay in the 2nd Airbnb place above? Do you know if the entire place has AC or just the bedrooms?

I only stayed in the booking.com place, (I stayed in other places too, but was more budget friendly, not fancy)

Ah. Thanks. The main thing is that I can look for places outside of town which seems to be the best ay to go even without a car.

Most nice villas with views are not in the center of town. A good portion of them will provide a ride into town if you dont have a driver. But I recommend getting one, they cost $40 for the day all inclusive.

Spent a few weeks volunteering in Ubud last summer. While I agree that scooter is the way to go in this town,  the driving skills are not the greatest ive encountered in the world and I wouldnt recommend learning here if youve never used one before.

Some recommendations:
You must hike Mt Batur/Aguag. It will require you to wake up at 2am, but its been one of my most memorable travel experiences thus far.
Spend some time at the Yoga Barn in town
If you are able to get on a bike, spend a day on a scooter checking out the rice terraces from the ground as opposed to driving by; its the real way to see this island.

They have cock fights here as a form of religious service; if that's you're type of thing (it wasn't mine), there's ample opportunity to partake.

- Cant really help you with the accommodations part; I stayed in a homestay for a few bucks a night. But the airbnb place looks cool.
iThink. Ergo. iAm

How exactly do you figure?

Should have said GH is nice, Conrad is nicer.

You didn't feel like it was a shlep but you didn't go back for another day? Is there only 1 days worth of stuff to do there? Did you look into the Laguna or any SPG properties?

I felt like one solid day was enough. I guess I'm open to the possibility that I missed out on something, but I've yet to hear what.

And, just by the by, motorcycle/moped in Bali was one of the scariest and most exhilarating things we've done. And that's coming from a skydiver, bungy jumper, and great white shark diver.

...Essentially, it's a must do.

Also Ubud nay be centrally located, but how easy is it to get from there to other places people generally visit? I heard the road to get to/from Ubud is quite windy. Is it easier to get to places from Nusa Dua?

Wow!! I don't know if I could ever convince DW to agree to take our DD in such a fashion. Could you convince your DW to take your DS that way now?

Depends what stuff your looking to do. Yup, the road is quite windy but it's not like you speed either way. I found Ubud to be a better location with a child.

Booked a flight back using the QR sale with the family.

What other places in Indonesia are recommended for a few days? Yogyakarta looked intriguing.
Gili Island a quiet alternative to Bali?

Anyone familiar with northern Bali? Would like to do a hiking/village experience for a few days.

Also, any recommended tour companies to contact? We did the last trip on our own since it was much shorter.

Ubud
Was there and enjoyed it, but looking for other ideas. Trying to avoid the touristy southern part of the island, and  may make more sense to go to the Gili Islands for beach time.

Ideally, I'd love to learn how to scuba dive, and I'd imagine the costs would be decent.
