We stayed in a private villa for 380 for 3 nights with our own private pool.     https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/620260

I am thinking of staying in that villa when I go to bali in December. Any additional info you can provide about that villa? Location? Ability to grill some kosher meat? mosquitos? cleanliness of pool?
Thanks!

Location is great. 5 minutes from central Ubud, though not walking distance. They have a driver that can take you for free back and forth. The pool was super clean, but the kitchen which is separate from the villa was pretty buggy. There were mosquitos and ants although that is probably more of an Ubud thing than this villa in particular. When I have a second I will post some pics of the villa, along with the rest of my TR.

Hmm, I'm thinking about it also in December.

Great report, would you reccomend bali for singles? Part of a lengthy asia trip. Hyatt 5k per night sounds amazing!
I don't see any reason not go single. There is so much to see and do there.

What are your dates?

Dec 25-30. I have been researching our decision to go during the winter and I have been hearing more and more about how rainy it is in december. Are you at all concerned about that?

I was there last year those exact dates.

Rained a couple of hours a day but got some sun. Overall, not the best time to go but quite doable

Was it very crowded? When I was there everyone was saying how August and December are the 2 busiest times.

Here is the end of my TR.

On Friday we went an hour north to see a volcano called Batur. The setting of the volcano is way up in the mountains and there is a really cool lake next to the volcano. We then went to see a famous rice paddy called the Tegalalang rice terrace. It is built onto the side of a hill and you can see the how they maximize the space to grow rice in every nook and cranny. We then toured Ubud which has a Grand Palace along with a not to be missed monkey forest. The park staff can help you get a picture with the monkeys posing on top of your head. Adjacent to the Palace is a large market where they sell all sorts of souvenirs. We got back to our villa at around 2 and prepared Shabbos. I couldn't think of a more peaceful place to spend a Shabbos and we really got to rest up and relax. They had a large table outdoors next to the pool which is where we ate the meals. From the top floor of the villa all you see are people working the rice paddies.

Sunday we checked out of the villa and went to see the Jatiluwih rice paddies, which stretch out as far as the eye can see. I thought that by now I wouldn't want to see another rice paddy but it was definitely worth it. You can hike along the fields and see the farmers in action. Our driver then took us to our next villa which is located in Seminyak.

Seminyak is the place to be with many villas, hotels, etc. If your into shopping there is plenty of that too. We paid about 440 for 2 nights for our private pool villa which was steep but well worth it. http://www.villakoenokoeni.com/gallery.php?cat=1&=0 The villa had just opened in October so they were running some sort of promo. The villa had an infinity pool with a waterfall, a real wall around it so that it's impossible for anyone to see in, and a separate dining area from the sleeping area. The dining room opens up to the pool which was nice, and the whole wall is glass that can fully open. The pool area has a bathroom and shower and the master bedroom has a huge Jacuzzi plus 2 showers, one indoors and one outdoors. The bedroom itself was really large and modern. If it wouldn't be so expensive I would have stayed there the whole time.

In Seminyak itself all there is to do is swim and lounge at the pool or go to the beach. We spent most of the time chilling in the villa although we did go to a place called Kuta to watch the surfers. There are really big breaks and it's fun to watch.  Sunset at the beaches were really amazing. On our last day we walked from out villa to the beach to see our last sunset. As the sun was setting a large group of Balinese came down to the beach holding spears, a basket and gathered around in a circle. As soon as  the sun dipped below the horizon they ran to the water, all smiling and cheering. When I asked if it was a wedding (they looked so excited!) they said it was a cremation ceremony and at sunset they pour the ashes into the ocean.

Tuesday morning we caught our flight to Bangkok. Something to keep in mind is that you need to pay 75,000 IDR in the airport as a departure tax, and you can only pay in local currency. They don't charge babies, although for the visa on arrival we did need to get one for our baby.

All in all we had a great time in Bali and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and cheap place to spend a week or so.
