+1 root is much more about unlocking the full capabilities of the phone and removing the restrictions placed by the carriers, with Android you generally can just download APK's for whichever app you're looking for.

@cozmohoot is right that if you don't know what rooting is it's really not for you.

i had it too until i did a factory reset and manually installed all my apps. Now i find the battery life even better than before the update.
