from facebook :

PSA:
If you recently (in the past 2 weeks?) shopped in The MarketPlace and swiped your card there CHECK YOUR CREDITCARD STATEMENT
Marketplace had great cust service and took care of the situation right away. The cleared their whole system and completely restarted.
But this is what originally happened to many customers:

The system was hacked and someone got a hold of all our creditcard info
the hacker CREATED replica CARDS on new plastic pieces.
The hacker went into stores and swiped the cards for different purchases (it seems from a few of us comparing notes that the hacker is in California.)

Some banks caught it before too much damage done. Some not. EVERY BANK HAS THEIR OWN WAY of recognizing these cases. So check your statements and make sure no extra shopping has been done on your acct.

DO NOT BOTHER CALLING THE MARKETPLACE. THEY CAN'T HELP YOU. They already did what they can from their part,

CALL YOUR BANK!!!!! CALL YOUR BANK!!!!

Really? like making an effort to get the word out to their customers so they know to check their accounts?

some people have charges for airlines and are wondering why they do not catch the people. the answer is simple it is someone who sold someone else a ticket posing like a travel agent online and then walks away with the $$ and the flyer is messed over now

According to this article (and particularly the comments if you can believe them) it sounds like the marketplace probably wasn't the source...

I got a text alert from Citi's fraud dep. Sure enough it was a fraudulent charge. I had used this card 2 weeks ago at The Marketplace.

I swiped my card there. A few days later I saw some charges from a Kroger in NC. Swiped on the 4th and the charges starting coming in on the 23rd.

Looks pretty cool.
I'm happy just using the alerts that come from the bank. I set them to alert me whenever there is any sort of transaction on my cards. I usually get an email from them within 15 seconds.
I was once withdrawing money from an ATM and I got an email from Chase about it before the money had even come out of the machine :)
