You need both

Pak and Play is for traveling, babysitter ect.

Porta Crib is for home, for when your child is an infant till like 8-10 months when they'll be ready for a regular crib.
(You could put your child in a regular crib even as an infant, but if the childs is sleeping in your room, easier with a Porta crib)

My daughter would not sleep in a porta crib as an infant. She preferred the Pac and Play. And even now at 2 years will sleep in a Pac and Play for an extended time. I.e.on vacation or by parents/in-laws for YT.

I don't own either, but if I was buying I would never get a Porta Crib

I live in a smallish 2BM apartment. My daughter started out in a small bassinet in our room. She then moved into the second room and a proper crib. My parents have both a Porta Crib and a Pac and Play. She never slept well in the Porta Crib, it is actually smaller then the Pac and Play.

Everyone I spoke to said the porta crib they bought was junk. I was in junvinelle planet today, and they showed me a $200 "commercial model" (it looked a little sturdier, had big wheels).
Which model did you buy?
Where you happy with it?

Bought one in Piccolino, used it for a few months for baby, when she outgrew it I moved it to guest room.  Have been using it for two years there, am very happy with it.  Has 2 levels and came in 2-3 colors.  Was def. under $200 but can't remember exact price.

Just to chime in with what others are saying. The Porta crib is smaller and less portable than a pac n play. I also got more use out pf the pac n play because it is deeper. After the child is bout a year and a half or so , they can climb put of the porta crib but not from the pac n play. I basically saw no reason to ever buy a porta crib in the first place. Anything a porta crib a pac n play can do but not vice versa.

2 points to consider
- In a porta crib an innfant can lie on the stomach, in a pac
and play s/he cannot.
- A porta crib is higher

Why can't an infant lie on their stomach in pac and play? Also they sell inserts to attach to the pac n play that raise the mattress while they are still infants, and you can remove this insert when the child gets older. With the porta crib, there's no way to lower it (at least the ones that I've seen).

We haven't used a real crib in ages.  All my kids have slept in PAC n plays until they are ready for a bed and it worked great.  They only thing I wish there was is a cheap way to raise the walls and keep them from climbing out.

There are 2 types if PC (porta crib) an adjustable height and a fixed hight.

i would def recommend a pac n play over a porta crib
they can be used for an infant
technically an infant is not supposed to be on their stomach anyways when they sleep

Never really needed either. Went from the stroller bassinet to regular crib at 3 months or so.
