SPG lifetime status with AMEX

The AMEX platinum gives gold status at spg. If I have the card for 5 years does it give me lifetime status like regular spg gold after 5 years?

I wouldn't sweat it. SPG Gold is not that hard to get. Heck, they often give it to you for free just for asking nicely.

For lifetime status you need 5 years and 250 nights. If you have the 250 nights, the Plat status should work

I called -- All stays numbers are based on Calendar year -- so we can do the 14 stays now through Dec. 31, 2013.
And 2 rooms for one night is 2 stays!   we can have the 2 of us in 2 rooms adjoining  -- Category 1 for 1,500 points + $30

I'm on a similar mission however, I don't have any category 1 any where near me (So Cal).
I was wondering If I  booked a room with cash or points and did  not actually go, would it still be eligible as a stay?
Also, can a friend or relative use my SPG number without me being there?

As far as I know, the comped stays/nights from the AMEX SPG cards don't count towards lifetime status. They used to, but no longer. The Gold status should count though
