Gdocs & Google Cloud Connect
« on: February 27, 2013, 05:22:37 AM »
Hi guys,

I have the following question/issue:

* editing excel, will update via Cloud Connect a page on Google Drive with the info (presented almost like a pdf, not spreadsheet).

* editing a Gdoc spreadsheet via Google Drive and sharing documents with others, will allow for all people sharing a spreadsheet view.

How do I bridge this, ie, I want to go from a gdoc spreadsheet (that is shared), to an excel.

On a separate note, is it possible to link cells or part of a Gdoc spreadsheet, to another Gdoc spreadsheet ?

You want to download a google docs spreadsheet into a regular excel file?

sounds like he wants to be able to edit an excel spreadsheet and have it automatically updated as a gdoc on google drive where it is shared with others CMIIW

Correct and vice versa.

Can people work simultaneously on one excel sheet?
Does it support linking to exterior documents?

Sounds too good to be true.

So we both work on ddf.xls

I work on D45

You work on C13

We both save with a 10 seconds interval, and both our changes are sync within this doc.

If yes, I'm in awe.

I never actually checked that but I think it should work. I'll check it later to confirm.

I tried editing Excel sheet on two devices at once and save and it saved one as a conflicted copy, so simultaneous editing doesn't work on Dropbox.

Okay, thanks, still partially in awe.

Will have to see whether an excel linked to dropbox excel works.

Any way to join a gdoc to all this ?

Question about google sheets:

I can see all the shared users that are currently in the sheet, by the little icons at the top of the screen.

Is there a way to check when a certain user was last active in the spreadsheet? (people keep it open all day, and I want to make a change that won't bother them unless they are currently working on the spreadsheet).

Thanks!

You could try checking by 'revision history' the last time they made any changes.

True.

I just saw that they were on the same cell for a few days in a row, so I assumed that it was okay to make my change. I haven't heard from them since, so I guess it was okay!
