Best I've done was change flight to day earlier less than 5 hours before. And lost my return flight in the process, and had a 23.5 hour wait time for CS. Worked it out B"H before the flight.
Had three phones call the special skymiles number and took the first rep that answered and said I don't have my number on me.

If you're ever in a unfortunate situation where you need to fly in a hurry, you can often beat that. Just booked my in laws a 4:15 flight at 2:00. Headed strait to the airport after. When you're trying to make a funeral...

But best was booked ewr-fll around 2 hrs before flight on my uber to there it ticketed.

Did online checkin went thru security then change of plans came up was at gate already turned around left gate called United canceld for $5.60 uber back whole thing under 3 hrs and got uber black by chance on way back when ordered regular.
