Last week, Staples had a rewards offer of 100% back in points on all batteries, up to 24/pk. I assumed that meant that if I spent $79.99 for a 24 pack of batteries, I would get points that could be redeemed at a value of $79.99. However, I am not familiar with how the rewards program works since they overhauled it. I ended up with 10,079 points, consisting of:

• 79 points from 1 point per $1 spent on purchases (so they rounded all the way down from 79.99 to 79)
• 10,000 pts from 100% back in points on all batteries, up to 24/pk.

It seems to indicate that I now can redeem 10,000 points for $50 off at checkout. So does that mean the 79 points remaining are unredeemable? What does the 100% back offer mean? How is $50 equal to 100% of $79.99?
