Pampers are softer than Huggies. Huggies have less "cushioning"
-1  pampers may be slightly softer but IME huggies have significantly more cushioning.
Pampers use some sort of chemical to absorb (hence those nasty crystal like things on your kids bottom) but huggies makes a thicker better padded diaper to allow it to absorb that much more

Never seen that.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Never seen that.
Iv'e seen them often when using pampers swaddlers, when a kid is very very wet you can see these see-through soft granules on the kids bottom

I've seen it once and it was with luvs. Never had it with pampers.

I'm not so keen about putting that stuff on my baby's butt but I've only found one other brand of diapers that don't contain SAP, but they had mixed reviews, so I don't really have a choice.
We use Seventh Generation Free and Clear, which does use SAP but seals it in very well. I've never seen any of the crystals leak out.
They are also not bleached with chlorine and its byproduct dioxin, a known carcinogen-which is the main concern for me.

Maybe it's time to start changing your kids more frequently.

I am very satisfied with Luvs. Moreso than Pampers for some reason and much cheaper which is good.

Don't think my wife would go for that. I agree with you though.

do you wake your kids up in the middle of the night to change them?.... Nope, didn't think so!

Btw just found this http://www.amazon.com/review/R2U5BE22RS09CM/ on SD

obviously i don't think this happens to every kid or that pampers are evil but in light of this discussion it's rather interesting

Yes. Called the wake-to-sleep method and it works very well.

Any good deals out there for newborn diapers? I think we skipped straight to size 1 with my first son, so that's what we stocked up with beforehand. But son #2 is in newborn for now, so I'm looking for relatively small packages on the cheap. My wife would definitely prefer Swaddlers, but if there's a really good deal on something else I'd be interested.

TIA

The hospital we were at sent us home with 5 packages of NB diapers and a package of size 1. Baby was in NB for about a month and we never needed to buy any :)

I think NB diapers are the cheapest size (swaddlers).
