Car Seat for 15 months old that is easy to travel with
« on: March 05, 2013, 09:01:50 PM »
I apologize in advance if this post is in the wrong place but this seemed like the most logical place.  I am traveling with my baby for the first time since she outgrew her Snap 'N Go.  Our main car seat is a Britax Marathon which is very heavy and bulky.  I was looking for suggestions for an easier car seat to travel with that is relatively inexpensive and a carrier for it. Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Thanks for the almost immediate reply.

I just have 2 followup questions:

Does this car seat have to be gate checked or can I board with it if I manage to find an empty 3rd seat through the airline?

I think you mentioned on the site a carrier that you used for this seat, can you remind me which one and I'm assuming that it is essential for an airport.

You can board with it.

You need the carrier if you're checking your stroller.  Or you can bring along the stroller and stick the carseat underneath it when making your way through the airport.

Just to clarify, I wouldn't be able to board with it unless I got a seat for the baby.  Otherwise, it would have to be checked/ gate-checked and I would need the carrier. Would it fit in an overhead bin? I apologize for all the questions.

As long as there's an empty seat you can board with it.
Depends on the plane, but if there's no seat they prob will make you gate check it.

I bought a gogo travelmate model sold outside USA, I am wondering if the USA model is different.
The one I bought has a foldout flap upon which to put the base of the car seat, I don't see that flap in any of the pictures on US shopping sites.
Can anyone confirm if the US model has this too, or not?
Thanks.

Anyone?
I attached a pic of the model I have, where you can see the flap.
My carseat is actually from the USA, so I am wondering if the USA version of the travelmate is different, and more suitable for USA carseats.

Does it cost to gate check a car seat?
