Best Airline for International Flight w/ Lap Infant(s)?
« on: March 07, 2013, 08:38:24 AM »
A friend of mine and I want to steal our babies away to Paris (from Chicago) for a breather, but the fees we're seeing for lap infants are higher than we anticipated... What's reasonable? Yes, I know, 10% of full-price fare, but what constitute 'too high' for you?

Is there one airline or another that would be particularly good? Do any programs allow for booking an infant (in seat or in lap) using less miles than an adult ticket?

We're gonna go coach, early May, and there are 3 babies, so we'd hope to book 3 seats on miles, and have 2 lap infants... unless someone has a suggestion that will minimize resources spent getting us to/from! In-flight comfort is secondary to low price/miles and schedule/availability, we're ok with this set-up (or we will learn that we are not! ;)). TIA

BA only charges 10% avios (plus yq, though)
I can't imagine you're traveling two women and three infants is a vacation, but to each their own. You sure your not better out going to SAN or something like that?

not familiar, but I imagine Chicago paris on aeroplan would be united, which aeroplan doesn't charge YQ

THANK YOU ALL!!

Chicago-Paris on Aeroplan via US Air or Lufthansa, YQ over $500/ticket!  :o
Chicago-Paris on Aeroplan via United (solo or with Lufthansa), no YQ!  Crazy game.  ;D

Both are 60K miles R/T... I'm thinking about using American outbound, so I can add the free domestic leg and because their itineraries include an overnight stopover in London! Maybe Aeroplan for the return (United direct CDG-ORD, no YQ, 40K miles, though)?

I called to verify lap baby charges: Lap babies are $50 (Canadian, eh) or 5000 miles in economy (you can choose which you want). $100 or 10,000 in Business. EDIT TO ADD: Lap baby charge is per itinerary, not per leg.

I'm going to revive an ole thread here. We're planning a trip to Israel sukkos time with a 7 month year old baby, flying with miles. My question is, are there any specific airlines that make it harder to travel with an infant  , I.e. No bassinets , giving more issues for extra seat, high charges for adding infant. Tia for any help.

BA is 10% of the mileage cost for adults. If you have a companion pass you should be able to put something sweet together.

assuming he doesn't want to pay YQ that leaves you basically with AB which i don't believe has bassinets

So if you don't buy an extra seat, then AB makes you hold your child throughout the whole flight ?

Like Emkay said, BA itself kills it all with the yq. In regards to the companion pass, I personally don't have one. My father has 2 of them, but I don't think you can transfer the passes to diff. account.
