I have 2 nights booked with CC points at the Radisson Barra Rio de Janeiro in June. I emailed the hotel with a request, and I got this response:
"Dear yls2011,
We would like to thank you for choose our hotel for your contact.
After May 27, 2015, this property will no longer be administrated by Atlantica Hotels with Radisson Barra Hotel Rio de Janeiro.
After this date this property will be administrated by Starwood Hotels with Sheraton Barra Rio de Janeiro Hotel.
For this reason, in order to help you, please, let me be informed if I can help you.
Sincerely yours,
Fabíola Cunha
Revenue Manager
Sheraton Barra Rio de Janeiro Hotel"
While it's nice that SPG will have another property in Rio, now I'm concerned about the status of my reservation (it is still intact online). I called CC to verify that my reservation won't be dropped, and I was told that Sheraton Barra gets to decide whether or not to honor the reservation.
I responded to the Sheraton GM's email ensuring that there are no changes to my reservation, and I'm waiting for a response now.
It makes no sense to me that had I not contacted the hotel with requests, I would not have received any update that the hotel is changing ownership.
Also, as far as I'm concerned, I made a booking, and I expect it to be honored. I signed up for the CC card with the intent of using it in Rio.
In the event that they try to cancel my reservation, is it within my rights to push for them to honor it?
