I Was in Dubai several Months ago for Shabos, KTM- Big Stopover in AUH-JFK Etihad First Class Suites using AA 90K, AUH Arrivals I was a bit nervous after seeing that our cousins were in full control of Passport control Emigration, all luggage is inspected right after Passport Control which meant my Tefilin and siddur were scanned and no questions asked, my first name in my passport if fully Jewish.

I stayed at a 5 star Ibn Battuta Hotel which I found on Priceline, I did walk around Dubai with baseball cap, Dubai reminded me kind of Las Vegas with out the Casinos. if anyone has questions about the UAE or Dubai feel free to ask. I did wear my yarmulka on both of my Etihad Flights KTM-AUH-JFK,  KTM-AUH the Arab flight attendent gave me stairs but the European and Asian flight attendants seemed to know passengers like me. the Personal Chef on AUH-JFK was from Bondi Beach, Australia.

Also when people in the shops or Taxis asked me  where I'm from I said, I'm from Canada did not want to say I'm from the USA.

We'd all love to see a Trip Report!

How was Etihad First from AUH-JFK? Did you use the free limo transfer in AUH? How was KTM-AUH? etc

Arriving into AUH I had an Audi drive me from AUH to Dubai which is a good hour drive, return to AUH Etihad claimed that since I'm on transfer no limo pickup from Dubai, but I could take the free Etihad shuttle bus from Dubai which you get a free bottle of water, I arrived 10pm the night before for my 10am flight because I love good premuim first class lounges, had a great 15 minute massage then had a great veggie dinner with loads if lechaims, had a great shower, smoked in the cigar lounge then was off to bed in the day rooms, woke up to another massage great shower awsome breakfast of bagels lox and eggs.

The flight:
The only first class I've ever flown are CX,Etihad and JL (I will not include AA and UA as a first class) but Etihad AUH-JFK Suites was AMAZING, I did not order KSML but I did pre order Vegetarian and there was also a fish option which was amazing, I did also eat the desserts it was WOW! Then after landing in JFK I had a free suv bring me to my house.

I do have pics, but can I post veggie meal pics? Don't want maaris ayin on anyone here.

How did you drive EBC to KTM?

There are side roads that goes from EBC to KTM, we hired a driver, Guide  and a 4 wheel,   just be forewarned , I consider myself very healthy someone who rarely gets a cold so is my friend who I went with and we both got High Altitude sickness I vomited like 4 times during my stay in Tibet\EBC even our guide who is Native to Tibet got headaches and felt sick @ EBC.

Our tour company arranged all the Visas for us A to Z before we departed to china, it was a package deal for Tibet Hotels, SUV, Driver and guide, you must have a guide in Tibet anyways.

thanks for the warning, I've been to the area :)
Seems like you weren't there for too long, did you take time to acclimatize?

No, we did a quicky using a vehicle,  unlike trekkers who trek on the Nepal side from Lukla to EBC, which I would have loved to do, but no time.  I did trek some of Annapurna in 2008 from Pokahara we were in EBC from late noon till 8AM, those wind GUSTS during the night were WOW, just like in the movies we slept in a massive tent @ EBC.

How many pics can I post in one message? I know Flyertalk allows 20.

thx i'll keep an eye on it..

seems like this dessert safari thing is offered all over, but I would hate to waste my time at their BBQ, belly dancing and beduin tents.... would much prefer having a short visit with only the things that we want to do.

what else did you do?

any tips for deals on hotels? want something near the ski/mall...

tons of great hotels, but feel stupid spending $200 for a day...
