Is it worth investing $1,150 to become SPG Platinum
« on: March 10, 2013, 05:52:25 PM »
I'm 14 nights away from becoming SPG Platinum, but only have till the end of April to make it.
Was wondering what peoples' opinions were on if its worth doing a mattress run for 14 nights at a cost of $1,150 in order to obtain status.
I expect to do around 35 nights at Starwood hotels in the next year.
Is Platinum that much better than Gold?

Why do you only have till the end of April? My rule is that if I need to stay somewhere anyways I'll pay a bit extra to earn status stays. I personally really enjoy platinum status.

There's a new benefit for spg platinum. You get priority boarding and first checked bag free with delta. Plus you get a starpoint for every dollar you spend on delta flights (even if you don't use your delta or spg card for the purchase).

Good to know --
Is it in the computer? Or do you need to show SPG credit card at the gate?

If you routinely pay to stay in suites it's probably worth it. Otherwise it's not an investment and just an expense.

It's my goal this year, because I want to
stay in suites and routinely NOT pay....  8)

Enjoyed gold this year - got an upgrade every time at Westins,
(not possible at Four Points, and Club Level at some Sheratons)...
