Beware Speaker Scam!
« on: March 11, 2013, 10:49:08 PM »
I was in Brooklyn and this van pulled up next to me. Two African American/HIspanic men were in the car. One of the guys told me that he has this $4000 speaker system that his supplier gave him extra and the last time this happened his boss sold them to a buddy. He said he wanted to make his own money so he would sell it to me for 600. After "bargaining" him down to the 100 I had in my pocket, I quickly googled it., It was a Vanderbach Speaker System. After scrolling down the page I saw this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speaker_scam. These guys were following the script it to the tea! They got pretty mad as I walked away. I just want people to be aware and on the lookout for these guys. They are driving a beat up maroon Astro.

They wouldn't be doing it if people weren't falling for it. My wife's grandfather fell for one of theses scams decades ago.

I almost bit. I just assumed from everything that it was like a "fall off the truck" type thing and I would flip it.

If you assumed they're stolen you stay further away.

Why speakers?
Why don't they try a different product?
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

Happened to me once when I wan in Miami.

I also possibly would have bought to flip it, put I was traveling so I didn't have room either way.

It funny that all these cons are selling speakers, has anyone had a similar situation with a different product?

In one of the storage units I recently bought. (A $20 unit)
I found what looked like a nice speaker set. I googles the company, turns out, the name was full of scam warnings. Lol.
I put it in storage. Will try to sell it at a flee market or something.
Never actually plugged it in to see if it works though.

Will try to sell it at a flee market or something.

Or try selling it out of the back of your car to some unsuspecting fellow. ;)

If you have the license plate, you should report it to the local police.

Of course it's illegal....they are selling fake merchandise in violation of copyright and other laws....and they also likely need a permit to sell something on the street
