I guess I'll try depending on how the time goes.

Not sure when you are going to be there but if the pollution is bad don't waste your time and money on the cable car (you can still go to Lantau Island but just take the bus).  We were cracking up from the audio as the announcer is saying "and on your right is the airport island and on your left is Macau" and this is what we saw from the windows and the floor (paid extra for 5 ppl for the glass bottom floor too, so you know that hurt me as a cheap DDFer)! :P

Hopefully I'll have time to write up my whole trip report because we did have an awesome trip and I actuallly thought it was easier going to Asia with a family than to Hawaii because all the restaurants were really solid and made my life so much easier.

Wow, shame.
Our views from the cable car were stunning.

Why did you think Asia was easier?

Yep, it sucked but we still had fun.  Honestly, if I was ever back there when the pollution wasn't so insane (apparently this time of year, the winds bring it down from all the factories in China) I'd probably pay to try again.

Why did you think Asia was easier?

Aside from having to lug milk (seriously, HaShem should give those of you that keep CY lots of Bracha for your efforts because I got only a small glimpse on this trip) and some other cereal and snacks for my kids, I didn't worry about food and to me that is HUGE, with my picky DH and kids.  :P
We had beautiful restaurants everywhere we went AND lovely Shabbos meals and shul experiences too (that was a big part of the joy of the trip).  It's definitely more flying but if you've got a solid 7-10 days available for a vacation, I'd head to Thailand instead of Hawaii (only got 4-5, go to Hawaii), especially since you are in LA and Cathay Pacific has so much J availability from there and SFO, and it's only 50K Alaska miles to get there (also almost the same as what you pay to get to Hawaii)!

True, you’ve got that sweet spot with Avios. :)  Honestly, I was referring to the ease of planning and lugging and either preparing or re-heating food for 5 people. The kosher breakfast at the Conrad Koh Samui was enough for lunch every day. Not every trip to Asia would be easy but this one, via Hong Kong didn’t involved me planning, packing and preparing 150 meals (for 5 ppl x 3 times a day x 10 days). :)

Has anyone been in Shenzhen for shabbos?

Edit: Apparently there is a dedicated Shenzhen master thread, although not listed in Master Thread Of Master Threads: Links To 125+ Destination Threads!

I think people do the opposite. At our Hkg Shabbos table, a number of the men had been in China all week and then just head to Hkg for Shabbos, where they can enjoy nice food, company and Davening,

It's a 45 minute subway ride from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. We made it a day trip, took the train back and forth, 10 am and 3 pm so as to avoid rush hour each way, from station right by KZ to the Shenzen Luo shopping center. And the Hong Kong subways are very modern, clean, safe and efficient. By comparison, the NYC subways make it feel like we are the third world country.

Thanks, but at this point it's moot. I'm going with a 144 hour TWOV so no access to Shenzhen

Considering doing the TLV-HKG-USA route, how long should I aim for in HKG?

I have up to two weeks so I'd potentially consider doing a short hop elsewhere in middle.
