Hong Kong layover
« Reply #2201 on: January 17, 2019, 09:11:02 PM »
Going to be stopping at Hong Kong airport on my way to Thailand. Flying Hong Kong airlines business. First layover is from 645 pm until 2 am. Is it worth it/feasible to leave the airport for kosher food and see anything? Any suggestions?

Second layover from 655am until 12 noon.

Thanks

Take the train right into downtown and Uber/Taxi to Chabad....I walked it and it was a huge mistake! Shouldn't take more then 45 minutes all together.

I'm considering a trip with a layover in HKG airport from 5:30 AM until 12:40 PM. Naturally, rather than being cooped up in the airport during all that time, we'd like to go out a bit to eat breakfast, and perhaps see the city somewhat. According to the wiki here, the only place that seems to fit the bill for breakfast is the milchig place at the JCC, which opens at 8:30 AM. Is that indeed my only option? Or is there a better choice that isn't listed?

Can anyone recommend some suggestions of things we might be able to see/do in that area while waiting for the breakfast place to open, especially considering the early hour? Also, part of the challenge is that we have a 20-month-old little boy, so it's preferable to avoid anything that would bore him to tears. ;)

Also, what's the best option for transportation? I saw this post right before mine:

But the Airport Express website says that the train is 115 HKD per person. So that's 230 HKD for a couple (more, if the baby needs a child ticket), plus the Uber from Hong Kong station is another 57-68 HKD... meanwhile, an Uber directly from the airport is estimated at 292-358 HKD. Hardly a savings at all to take the train, it seems... what am I missing here?

+1
Victoria’s Peak.
And KZ is another option for breakfast, served daily after davening, It’s a set menu IIRC.
The JCC is closer to the Peak if that matters.

Shachris by Rabbi Meoded at 7:15 and there is an option for buffet breakfast after. You can take a bus straight from the airport to his shul in kowloon.

I’m all ears... which bus goes directly from the airport to the shul? And how much does it cost?

No, it's a train to Kowloon then a taxi or Uber. Or you can just Uber from HKG.

No, the A21 bus goes directly there. Only HKD33 one-way or 55 return.

Not bad. How long does the ride take? Where do I catch that bus?

Glass bottom cable car?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Wife will probably freak out at the notion of a glass-bottom cable car. 🙈

You can do the not glass bottomed ones. Lantau island is a lot closer to the airport too if you did that.
