I guess it's hard to find an available at the last minute that it's not the asking price but the demand issue. I just hate to see it go wasted... any taker at any price???

Certain discounted fare classes have to be available in order to use Delta companion certificates. It's very rare to find eligible flights last minute. It just won't work most of the time.

Pull up the flights and look at the fare classes for both the outbound and inbound. For the companion certificate, tickets are only available in I and Z classes of service for First Class travel, and only available in L, U, T, X, and V classes of service for Main Cabin travel. For Delta Comfort+ travel, tickets are available in W and S classes of service, but only when L, U, T, X, or V classes of service are available in the Main Cabin.

@tjp74 Does the outbound and inbound need to be taken or just one of them?
meaning can i book a flight leaving the 29th and coming back the 2nd of feb?

I don't see why not. Delta companion certificates can be utilized in combination with an eCredit and gift cards can be converted to an eCredit so you should be able to indirectly if not directly.

I hear that. What fun playing around with the gc to be able to book on your own with TC and using more than 5GC per booking, booking and then canceling.

Though i was looking at flights from the 29th of jan to feb 2nd, so i guess it doesn't help me with these certificates.
