The manager said that they understood the customers were not happy with 40 minute wait time so they just scrapped it.

Sad indeed.
Maybe If some of the over-entitled people stopped complaining

If only the others had this attitude about it :
Just visited the lounge.  It was great!
Tips: they won't reserve a meal for you and it takes 45 minutes to prepare (this is not exaggerated)  so beware with a short layover.  They  offer  salmon,  chicken  and beef  option.  Just ask  for them  at check in.

Please be courteous, they don't have to offer this service but they do and its awesome.  Enjoy  :)

A landside lounge is useless.

An airside lounge in LGA would be even more worthless.

True. Unless you built 5 of them
But why spend millions of dollars on something that is worthless

NYC is an important/prestigious market to be in and JFK isn't practical for one lounge.

I guess so, but in the end of the day, it's useless

A landside lounge is useless.

Having a lounge ‘airside’ before security means having to leave the lounge earlier for your flight, though. But security has never been bad for me at LaGuardia — the different terminals and piers have helped ensure that. And American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders get Global Entry or PreCheck signup fees rebated. Either gets you PreCheck access if you qualify, and should further reduce wait time.

They’re planning to add a screen showing security wait times near the entry to the lounge, so that will help reassure guests as well.

Can you access the lounge with a platinum card even if you don't have a flight?

Yeah, but I would never arrive before I need to. If I show up to the airport 30-45 minutes before departure, I will never go to an airside lounge. Only useful if you show up two hours early. But why would you do that?
