Great! Knew this card was good for something :-) (aside from the awesome sign-up bonus miles)

Why is this pricing at 80k per person?
It should be 30k per person.
It didn't show up with regular search, I used MD to force it.

The question is why.
The layover in N Asia shouldn't affect the price of S Pacific to South Asia.

Unless the fare fules prohibit a connection in N Asia...

I'm also assuming thats the reason.
They've really been working on the pricing engine.

I just flew with 4 others on 5 separate United award reservations.

We had a flight scheduled from LHR-FRA-JNB - and wanted to change it to a direct LHR-JNB flight on the day of our flight. Using the United call back number, they wanted to charge me a $75 change fee. Calling the regular United number, they did it for free. (we had to do it one at a time. They weren't showing availability when trying to do more than one at a time)

Just sharing in case this might help someone.

If I don't like the Saver Award available flight times, is there a way to just book one and later on switch to another flight (with better departure time for me) for free or will there be some exuberant fee regardless?

In the 24hrs of booking no fee, but if you will change after that there will be a fee.

So you're saying I should book the flight and within 24 hours call in and have them change the flight to the flight I want? Do both flights need to be Award Saver or can I switch to regular award flight for no additional fee?

The thing that really bothers me is how there is seemingly no rhyme or reason to how they release award seats (at least on certain routes).

I can understand why they would black out the summer temporarily until the dates get closer and they still have unsold seats, but why is there 1 random day in July that has J availability on IAD-HNL?

July 4th is not a random day.

July 4th is not a random day.
On several routes that I checked to HI, it's the only one that had any Saver space (Y or J) on any day in July. And, if anything, one would think July 4th would be more blacked out than the rest of July.

No one travels on July 4th itself. The travelling is done before and after July 4th.
