OW = One Way?
Yes.

And by "direct", i mean booking a RT from one account.

But if I book two RTs, one from each united account, then I can't guarantee sitting together?

Seat assignments have nothing to do with who booked what. Once you book a ticket, you'll get a confirmation number and can go online or call up to pick any seat that's available.

So then what does this refer to?
If you call after both are booked they'll join them, not sure what the benefits of that are other than a better chance of keeping your seats together.

No idea. I mean if you book separately, you'll have 2 different confirmation numbers, but picking seats is the same whether it's 2 confirmations numbers or 1.
I didn't read the whole discussion, but if you're banking on a free bag, priority boarding, etc. because one of the travelers has status or a CC, then if they're on separate reservations, both people will not get the free bag.

Also, sometimes people hold award seats through AA.com. They allow a 5 day hold. So I would check everyday shortly after midnight because that is when their hold will be released if they didn't end up booking. Has worked for me a few times.
Any simmilar tip for United? Actually waiting for an Air Canada flight to open up, that I'm booking with United miles.

If someone books a flight, they have 24 hours to cancel, which really means a certain time the next day. Not sure exactly when, but it's something like 10PM the next night, so you might find people cancelling tix close to that deadline.

Free bag is not nogeya (I think) because this is international. Basically, we want fly business to Israel, but neither of us has enough points for all four tickets (2 each way). So if we book tickets there under one name, and tickets back under the other name, we'll only get priority boarding one way I guess. What other differences are there (as referred to by your "etc")?

Lounge access could be tied down to a FFN/status. Can't think of anything else right now.

This refers to when they change your seat unilaterally,  or there's an equipment change,  etc.  They automatically will reseat everyone on the confirmation together.  If you call and link them they will treat it as one.
More nogea when traveling in economy and with more people.

Business class gets priority boarding and lounge access (at least on this route) without any need for status or cc.

If you book it as Round Trip tickets (one from each account) - you can maximize the free stop/OW, for example: NYC-TLV-NYC//NYC-LAX (even a year later) for the price as NYC-TLV-NYC, but if you book them as One Ways you can not do this.

Got it.

Is it the same exact priority boarding?

If I wanted to do this, would I have to schedule the extra leg now? Or can I leave it hanging?

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful!

You'd have to schedule it now, but you can always change it.

I  have booked 2 separate bookings with united points 1 going and 1 coming back. Can I ask them to join the bookings so that I can add a free one way when I come back to the us ?
