Does united ever have saver award availability on their nyc-Lax and back flight with the 757-200?
I want to book the lie flat seats.
I looked in the beginning of August for 2 whole weeks nothing available!
I just flew them jfk to lax 2 seats, I was looking for a while and the pattern seems to be that it opens up closer to the flight usually withen a week. ( beware no KSML meal).

Yes, definitely chances go up closer in, but even then it's hardly a gimme. Look into AA F.

Chances are close-in it will open up, but you need to figure out the close-in fee as well.

I disagree.

Chances are on that route that a particular flight will *not* open. Especially for 2 pax.

The red-eye i understand, but when coming back from Hawaii through LAX, i saw saver space for a non CC holder open in the afternoon and morning. Not optimal, but lie-flat.

Anecdotal evidence at best.

Go take a gander and you'll find the majority of the flights, even close in, do not open on the PS route.

+1 I have searched that route for the upcoming few days a bunch of times, and I have rarely, if ever, seen 2 seats open on the 752 (to JFK or EWR).

I think it's one of the bigger "misrepresentations" in the miles world when people say proudly (like they know what they're talking about), "Oh yeah, jump on LH 17.5K to fly lie-flat to LA."

+100.
I remember reading about the 17k option through LH in the M&M thread and I was so excited about it. But when I started checking it out I see it's merely impossible. And mind you there are a few flights a day and I checked with "expanded saver award availability"!
Btw iirc it's the 757-200

FYI being logged in and searching with the expanded availability won't help you here. Partners (such as LH) can't book UA flights if the only space showing available is because you searched with expanded availability. That expanded space is only for people who have the UA CC and pay with UA miles.

752 = 757-200

1) I do know  that and I was ready to at least book it with MP but they didn't even have availability there! That was my point.

2) Oh!

I book last minute j from lax - jfk on United all the time.  Outside of holiday weekends don't recall ever failing.  Probably did 8 round trips in the last 6 months
