No.

The rep was wrong. It's YMMV. For example if some low revenue fares have sold out the INVENTORY will not go back.
it's a business class seat... So I assume the same would apply if the lowest fare business was sold out?

That's the way it usually is on said route.

+1.

The NYC-TLV or v.v. route on UA nonstop is very very tough.

If you have the UA CC, you get a few more dates that has XN available (extended availability).

So basically transferring citi or amex points to ANA or Singapore in hopes of booking United international flights(NYC to TLV) is a bad gamble

I don't think you can pool all international flights together. We were discussing the Tlv-Jfk route, which is one of the more harder routes to find space on.

Would anyone know if I'm upgraded on a domestic flight using an RPU and then stand by at the airport for an earlier flight, what happens to my upgrade? Does it get transferred over?

My focus was on the NYC-TLV route.    The posts on DDMS talk about possibly transferring amex points to ANA or Areoplan or Singapore to book United flights; I am just pointing out that for the NYC-TLV route while in theory its possible to do this practically  its not realistic

The only good reason to use SQ would be in J so then yes, you get 2 free checked bags in J.

I have a united CC.
Forgive my ignorance but united's MPE gives you a "First Checked Bag Free" isn't a checked bag a bag you take up on the plane??

I'm thinking of using it for economy.
You ask why?
1) It's Amex points (much easier to accumulate then my precious UA points)
2) $20 change fee as opposed to United $75
Please correct me if I'm wrong in my calculation.
Tia both of you!

Wrong.

And the United cc won't *officially* get you a free bag when booking through SQ.
