Don't know what it has to do with explorer card but I have gotten upgraded on a mileage united ticket.

25k spending is just a PQD waiver so if you are gonna be a united elite(silver,gold, etc...) because you have flown enough miles(25k for silver, 50k gold, etc...)you can get complimentary economy plus from checkin time which is 24 hrs before departure.

You need a card for an upgrade on an award ticket.

You need to be a premier member, which includes being a card member, elite status.
So, if no status then yes you need card, but not a requirement, for some reason that was what I understood.

When booking from a 1k account to a third party with no status, do they get the same baggage allowance like a premier?
The ticket says so (2 X 50lbs in Y) buy I wander if Turkish/Swiss/Lufthansa will honor it.
Anyone with similar experience?

You automatically get *A Gold status with a platinum or higher UA acct.

Which will give you extra baggage allowance (as well as lounge access) on any *A carrier.

How can I pursue the lounge access? Will it automatically pring along with the boarding pass?
I had no idea this can be done! Having a few hours in the airport with little kids sounds much more relaxing now...

It should automatically be in the system, just mention to them that you are *A gold member, and you should be good to go.
