Try booking  (by phone  213.404.0301) through Singapore (KrisFlyer), if you have Singapore (Chase )miles.
Singapore has a phone booking fee

I was pointing out that by phone there is no booking fee for the United flights. Only taxes which come to approx US$8, depending on route, etc.

Trying to fly LAX JFK at the saver economy rate and all I can find is LAX EWR.
Any chance they would let me standby on a JFK flight?  Anyone have experience with this?

Hey there! I am using WhatsApp.

Yes, they will let you same day standby. Whether you'll clear is another story.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

You've done it to different airports?
Is it something they can do over the phone 24 hrs before or can I only be placed on the list at the airport?

Just booked a y saver award ticket lax-iad. There are currently no economy seats available for "complimentary" assignment, only economy plus at a buy up. Any tips on how to ensure I get  those and not placed into some middle seat in the back of the plane? Besides paying up of course. Worth calling united? Or just waiting it out?

If you got your FF# and using that to search then I don't think you are missing anything.
