Re: United award flights JFK-TLV-Tuscany-JFK
« Reply #4960 on: June 09, 2022, 04:33:55 PM »
We have Capital One, Amex, AA, Delta, Bonvoy, & Chase points, and (2 adults) are looking to go to TLV June 30 for a week, and then spend a few days in Tuscany before heading back to JFk. Ideally, we'd like to use miles, but are having trouble figuring the best use of the points/partners/conversions. Most United flights (<12 hour flights) are >90,000 points one way.

Any help on best conversions to airline partners that would be the least & best use of points is appreciated...

UA has some roundtrips TLV-EWR pricing at ~2k. If you're looking for a flight OW to EWR, you can make the return as a coach cheap flight (with stopover). example - TLV-EWR in business on Mar 21, returning May 1st in coach with a stopover, will cost $1236. If you use Amex plat points, that comes to 80k. plus you get miles for flying and towards status. Even if you just need a 1 way, it's (much) cheaper to book the roundtrip...

Wasn't sure where to post a reply since the thread you posted it is alerts only, but you can do RT nonstop in business for $1,954 on these dates

Are united award flights always cancelable even on partners? It seems they're only offering flight credit

On a United flight booked with Turkish (or other partner) points, is there an option to upgrade to premium economy or business for $$?
Or are you locked in to Economy if there's no business award availability?

anyone else noticed an extreme decrease in saver availability, even in economy?

looking for Janaury flights to Hawaii (HNL, OGG, LIH, KOA) in economy on a sunday/monday and found nothing at 22.5k

this is total contrast for past 2-3 years when wide open availability if willing to fly economy.

I had booked a cheap ticket EWR- ANC 8 months ago but can’t actually make those dates (next week).
Do they still charge the close-in cancellation fee?

I can’t push off the tickets and then cancel as there’s no other dates with those prices (23k RT) and I would need to transfer more

Is there a way to change the dates and retain my price?

There has been a tiny schedule change (less then 30 minutes) and the system isn’t letting me change dates for free.
Can I press the issue if I call them?

In my experience they don't charge the fee.

In your booking choose the cancel option and see if it says it will charge you a fee or if it says $0.00 fee.
120 characters? Hmm, I wonder what I could write with 64 characters. Boy, it's gonna be hard to use up 15 characters. W-

when booking an award ticket using lifemiles, is it considered basic or regular economy?

AFAIK UA doesn't even sell/offer basic economy for award tickets

DP:
They offered either to move the flight within a seven day window, or a full refund.

any way to access the old UA calendar view?
was working for me up until about month ago when go through "advanced search", but stopped working now.
The new interface is just horrible when searching with flexible dates.

Yes do advance search for “money” prices. Results should show old calendar. Then switch to award price.
