If i flew lets say 25,000 miles to earn silver status next year, can i use this miles now for a award flight, and still get the silver status?

Can I have overlapping itineraries booked, or will it cancel out?

I have both tickets already, I'm just wondering if it's going to wreak havoc closer in.

My goal is to cancel the paid ticket 36 hours before the flight and see if Saver Business opens up. Otherwise I will just take my (already booked) stopover award flight.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Dan claims its risky to do that.

Gold status with United is officially giving you free upgrades 48 hours before the flight, is this as simple? If there is available business class seats 48 hours before the flight Will i clear? they will not try to sell it till the last minute? (trying to help out a friend that is flying a lot he had no idea about miles/status, when I checked his account now I'm seeing he haves gold status with about 100,000 miles!!

IME it occurs based on availability and ranking amongst fellow passengers, it is not guaranteed.

So if 48 prior to flight there is available biz. class seats and there is no higher elites then me, will i get the seat? in other words when there is saver awards available 24 hours before the fligh this means that all gold members cleared already? (i dont think there is any post or thread for this topic, if yes please advise.)

Nothing is guaranteed.
If you get an email, you've been upgraded.  If you don't, you're not upgraded.

Here:

I wouldn't recommend that as a strategy, I'd hate to hear from people losing their mileage accounts over something stupid like that.

And later:

They're far more sophisticated then that. Don't come crying when you're blacklisted.

And I concurred:

+1

UA has a department called Revenue Integrity. As a travel agent, I've run afoul of them in the past, and let me tell you: they're veeeeery good at connecting the dots.

My question is, per the T&C from United, do they have to upgrade a gold member 48 hours before the flight if there is avail. seats in biz. class? (not what my chances are?)

United will only upgrade you if there is "R" class avail. Saver award is "!" or "IN" which has nothing to do with the avail. of "R" class.

“R” is the booking class that represents upgrade space from Economy to the next cabin level.
You could find it on ua.com after searching for a ticket by clicking on fare class. or expertflyer and similar sites will search for it.

Every flight is different, they will open it up when they think they can't sell it, and that no one will get it as a saver award, and that they can't offer it to non elites to buy a cheap upgrade before the flight. Were are you fling

Only if you use GPU (you get them if you are 1k) or with miles and co pay.
