One more question.
What has to be the same on the 2nd reservation as the canceled ticket (Dan's post says they need to be same routing)?

You can book the tickets separately, one saver and one standard, and combine them online. Better than paying the standard rate for the whole trip.

@jaywhy, can you explain me his question ???

I understand he wants to ask.... If you pay a F rate but you are getting a mixed cabin, what can you do to get in to F (on the leg that you originally only got economy) once it opens up?

You can say what you think when you think what you say.

Short answer: Nothing. You can wait until the mixed cabin opens but you'll likely lose the F cabin.
Possible solution: What I wrote.

With regards to Singapore availability, if I see business saver available on Singapore's website, would that be bookable via United by calling?

Meir, for example?
SIN-MLE and many other flights that don't touch the US.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Blimey. Anyone have any luck getting them to honor it anyways? Meanwhile I had to book something to lock in the old rate for the summer.
