Can you please be more clear  :-[

Is it a simple stopover? So why isn't it in the itinerary?

It is a stopover but they can't put it on the itin, cuz they can't sell that flight leg by itself. Similar to the direct Qantas flight from JFK to Australia, with time on the ground at LAX.

Why?

Regarding the Qantas flight, supposedly a international carrier can't operate a domestic only ticket in the USA, so hence they can't sell a LAX-JFK ticket. But if a passenger was to fly SYD-LAX on Monday they can then take the LAX-JFK leg on Qantas on Thursday since they are on a intl ticket.

So maybe similar here. LH can't operate a domestic only ticket within Japan.

$75 close in fee is charged twice for a roundtrip????

Who pays close in fees?

I thought the old method didn't work anymore.

Works fine.

So then my question is - is it worth waiting it out and into the 21 day to get a better flight time or stick with the one I have on hold since I will never know if something else will open up?

PUTPAC

I called and got the complete charge refunded. I guess I don't pay close-in fees after all.
