Canceling a Virgin Atlantic award ticket within 7 days

I have now a situation where I need to cancel a VS award ticket for tomorrow.

Per their policy within 7 days of travel no refund of miles will be given.

The only workaround I found was this:

However, on VS site, there is a clear saying that it does not work:

"If for any reason a flight reward is cancelled less than 7 days prior to departure, no Miles will be refunded and no fee will be charged. If you change the original travel date (within 7 days of departure) and later decide to cancel your flights, you will forfeit the mileage used for the reward"

Want to know if anyone here has first hand info on this...

No first hand experience, but I would venture to say your chances are better than 50/50.

This works well in other areas (think UA and hotel RSVPs).

Works with AC as well. Don't see why it won't work unless they're really on top of things.

AC reps tell you that officially, and you can do it on one phone call (change and then cancel).

On my 3rd call now to VS, all of them seem to know about this.

Wondering if it's worth the change fee for the chance of a possible refund after the ticket is reissued. But I guess I'll put it pays to risk $50 for 30K miles (75%) if the chances are really 50-50.
