Ended up getting a linkysys ea7500 ac1900 router. Works very good throughout the house.
Connection is dropping pretty often now. I'm not sure why. I think I'm going to open it up and clean it from dust. I'll see if that helps

Anybody ever tried cooling a router with a fan to see if there's improved performance?

I need a router that can handle 12-16 (possibly more) devices connected simultaneously. Not for heavy usage just basic stuff.

Can any regular router handle that or do I need an expensive one?

I see in the description of this one it says supports up to 16 so I'm assuming cheaper ones might have a problem

Not sure what they mean with the wording in the description, but a cheaper router (basically any normal router) can certainly handle 16 devices connected simultaneously.

Me personally I would just stick with the modem they give you. For the router all I can say is that I have the Linksys ea7500 in a fairly large house and am happy with it.

I got it used for $45 on eBay.

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.
