easier to return to costco than chase sapphire though...
Sure, but Costco rarely has the best prices on electronics.

I have the D40 and it's a great entry-level DSLR. Bear in mind though, that once you start with DSLRs, it's a whole different ballgame. You'll want to buy additional lenses, flashes etc.
how do you like the d40? i got the canon t2i 4 months ago and pretty happy so far

I'd go up to $195 and get the Canon SD1200IS
is that better than the elph 300?

ROFL...do you realize you just quoted a post from over 2 years ago and asked if it was better than a camera that was released this year??

I really enjoy it, it's pretty compact compared to others, but I'm sure your t2i beats my D40 hands down. I'm looking to upgrade now, as most cameras now have video, more pixels, larger screens and a lot of other goodies (self-cleaning sensor etc.). Only thing is, I've bought a couple of lenses by now, so I'm gonna stick with Nikon, although the t2i looks very attractive.

Kit lens, 55-200 VR and 35mm 1.8. I use the 35mm most of the time.
