Email fraud?
« on: March 24, 2013, 10:18:57 AM »
I am suspicious of identity theft, or maybe im just paranoid.
Somebody created a email address very similiar to mine. Lets say mine is davidkat @ gmail,
somebody created a email address davidkat88 @ gmail, and i keep getting emails from gmail, that the "davidkat88" acct password was changed, and they are verifying it to my davidkat @ gmail acct. In the email gmail tells me if i got the message by mistake, i should just ignore. However it happened a few times, and im just suspicious because the email is very similiar to mine, and mine isnt a ordinary email address... Can anyone help? Thnx

It could be he by accident put his backup email @Gmail when it was @yahoo or something.

Try emailing the guy. You could also sign into his email if you're the backup... But I don't know that I'd recommend that.

I would guess its something fraud related.

Make sure your email password is a good one. (Upper case, Lower case, Numbers, and a symbol)

I would strongly suggest turning on two-factor authentication. Even if he somehow manages to reset your password, he won't be able to access anything without the second factor.

No doubt its weird.
Thats why I suggested turning on two-factor authentication. Even if he tries anything screwy with your account, which it sounds like he is trying to, he won't be able to get in.
Or you can reset the password to his account, nuke it, and live happily ever after.

Change your passwords. Check your credit report.
