Blackberry Data Only
« on: March 21, 2013, 01:18:46 PM »
I just got the SG3 and I miss my BB terribly. Is there any way to get a BB with data only, BBM, email etc. w/o paying for a full plan? VZW offers tablet access to a family plan for $10 a month, would anyone have a similar option for a BB with no voice plan and only data?

I looked into this 6 months ago, and from my research there is no way to have BBM without a voice plan attached to it.

What part of the BB are you missing? Is it the keyboard?

The keyboard and the push email.

I once heard something about a 02 sim from the UK that is like 5 pounds per month and gives a couple hundred MB of international roaming data.

Would VZW theoretically be able to treat a BB as a tablet and disable voice and just charge $10 per month?

The push email.

Can't the setting be on the S3 so that it's constantly looking for new emails? How long does it take for emails to arrive?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I loved the BB separate icons for each email address and that they pushed to the device. On the SG3 only Yahoo pushes and all my email  addresses are combined.

If someone can show/tell me how to fix those 2 problems, all I would be missing is the keyboard.

I will PUTPAC my VZW sales rep and report back

On my gmail app I can have multiple accounts and they are separate, i just choose to switch from the settings. Not sure how yahoo app works (or why someone would use Yahoo at all -unless your on it from back in the day...) As far as push, I get mine right away on gmail.  You might want to check out the Android Central Forums. I got alot of help there when I first started. They're great folks there.

Gmail is push on Android.  Often shows up faster than on my computer.

may try pre paid plan. Yes as a ex bb user the no push email was hard to get used to. However my iphone mail app divides up all the diff accts vry nicely

Is that using the gmail app? I use the regular email app and it only gives me the option of syncing email every 15 min

Is there a separate icon on the home screen, similar to BB? Or do you have to enter the app to see the different  accounts?

I'll check out the android forums later, thanks.

I just sent a test email to all my email accounts. After 10 minutes nothing came in, I manually refreshed in the email app and they all came in.

The first problem is it does not push to my phone
the second is, when in combined view there is no way to see which email address received the email.

I am having a really hard time with my email experience so far.
Please help

I had the same problem on my gs3. You have to sync the accounts to your phone. If your contacts are stored on the phone and not a Google acct be prepared to get a lot more contacts.

So if a contact is stored in the google account then the email is push, and if not then the email is sync?

I use the gmail and email apps and both push for me on the GNex.

The setting I have it on is Automatic/Push.

Is that from the email app or gmail app?

I don't even see that option.

Is your account synced to your phone?

What type of email is it? Exchange? Gmail?

I have Gmail, Yahoo and a godaddy email on my phone and I don't see that option anywhere
